So… I just got back from my favorite feedstore. Had to pick myself up from off of the ground. Chicken feed has gone up in price AGAIN!
Today I found out that our Congress re-upped the ethanol program that was set to expire in December of 2010. Nationally we’re expecting a 9.4% lower corn corp and also a smaller world crop… where do you you think the majoricty of it will go?
According to one site
http://www.farmgate.illinois.edu/archive/2010/11/corn_more_acres.html, they state that more than one in three bushels of corn will be going to ethanol. Seems like farmers must be growing corn for ethanol instead of food. We like to eat grass-fed beef, but alot of people out there are still eating feed-lot beef-HOW ARE THESE BEEVES GOING TO GET THEIR CORN RATION? How much are you really willing to pay for a pound of ground beef? Small farmers like us are hit very hard with these price increases. At our farm, we’re trying to sell good, clean food at reasonable prices…not those health-food store prices. The ‘big-boy farmers’ may end up making that impossible!
