Update: June 20,2011
As much as we hate to say it… it appears that we will not have a U-pick this season. There is so much work to be done in our blueberry field-pruning dead, pruning old, weeding, killing wild blackberries, marking rows etc. As usual, all plans do not proceed as well as they looked on paper! Our one season loss should reap more berries for you and a more continuous season in 2012 (you know, instead of the open then closed for ripening that we’ve had).
We know that you want blueberries… we want you to have them too. We want to suggest a visit to another farm for this season… of course we’d like to have you return in 2012! Try Bryant’s Blueberries in New Salisbury IN or Eye’s Blueberries in Taylorsville KY.
Ah Ha! Our main focus here at the farm! Blueberries! No chemical, no pest spray just great blueberries with real blueberry flavor.
We will be trying some new procedures this year, 2011.
1) We don’t intend to net our bushes this year. We have a good deal of maintenance scheduled and the nets would pose problems.
2) We are considering an honor system style of pick and pay throughout the work week. This has not been made final yet.
3) We will not be offering a ‘take home bag’ for your berries. Please bring a container or bag of your own for transport. We will still supply buckets for picking.
4) Our price will remain the same as 2010: $12.00/gallon.
Here is a list of FARM RULES:
Some farm rules that we want to pass along:
1) There is a no smoking policy on the farm. This is a courtesy as well as a necessity due to buildings and the dry summers.
2) No alcoholic beverages please. This is a family farm.
3) Please do not bring your pets.
4) This is a working farm with livestock. Please pay attention and heed any signage pertaining to the animals and their housing, this includes the barn. 5) Parents, keep an eye on your children. They make great pickers for a short while. There is a play area you/they may visit. However, play is at your risk and you are responsible for your childrens’s safety.
6) Remember this is our home as well as our farm. Please respect any private areas.
7) Rain is a part of every summer- We don’t pick in the rain, we don’t pick in thunder/lightning either. If it is raining where you are, call first.
Hello, I am just checking to see when your blueberries will be ready to sell, I have been looking forward to buying them so close to home. What are your hours and days,
and any other info I need to know.
Thank you ,
Barbara
Hi Barbara
Our berries look to be taking some extra time this season. (see pic on Berry page) They will probably be ready closer to Father’s Day this year…but, as with all things ‘nature’, this is subject to change.
